The Climbers Blu-ray, Video Quality   


$ t& R% O+ g7 w+ K3 BThe Climbers is presented on Blu-ray courtesy of Well Go USA with an AVC encoded 1080p transfer in 2.39:1. The IMDb lists several RED cameras as having captured the imagery (at a source resolution of up to 8K), with everything being finished at a 2K DI. Aside from some momentary banding issues, this is a solid looking transfer that preserves some jaw dropping actual location photography, especially in some aerial shots which feature some pretty stunning depth of field. There's also a glut of what looks like green screened material, where backgrounds in particular can look relatively soft, and some scenes seem to have CGI snowfall, which again can look slightly impressionistic and less detailed than the bulk of the presentation. Fine detail on elements like fabrics on parka and other hiking accoutrements is typically excellent.

; j9 ]" A1 K/ PThe Climbers' DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 track (in the original Mandarin, with optional English subtitles) occasionally roars into action in some of the outdoor scenes, notably the two aforementioned avalanches and third bracing windstorm which almost wipes everyone out. The whipping winds of the highest altitudes provide some really impressively immersive moments. Dialogue is rendered cleanly and clearly throughout the presentation.
