Iron Man 3 was shot digitally and, after watching the first two films, which were shot on film and heavily noise reduced, it's clear that Disney was trying to match their aesthetic to this one. It's a bit glossy and smooth by its nature, and it looks fine on the UHD, even if textures are not more than subtly improved over the Blu-ray, finding only a slight bit more sharpness under the 2160p resolution (upscaled per IMDB). Fine details on faces, clothes, Iron Man suits, and various environments don't appear with much more total clarity to sharpness, instead the product of modest-at-best improvements that in no way greatly surpass anything the Blu-ray has to offer. Still, good definition is evident in facial textures, wear on battle-scarred Iron Man suits, and the like. It's perfectly acceptable but fans should keep expectations in check.

The HDR color enhancements offer the greater points of improvement over the Blu-ray. HDR offers the usual upgrades in terms of color spectrum improvement, greater depth, finer white crispness, improved overall bright source luminance, and refined black levels. Skin tones are also healthier across the board, playing nicely even against some of the interior suit shots where bright digital light sources illuminate the user. Natural greens, the suit paints, (Iron Man in various configurations, the red, white (silver, really), and blue Iron Patriot) enjoy a fine combination of color punch and depth. It's a strong upgrade from the Blu-ray and, while by no means a UHD stunner, this is the best looking of the three Iron Man films because it exhibits the least amount of obvious tinkering with the source.

The Dolby Atmos soundtrack is decent if not a bit underwhelming at the bottom end. It's not particularly forceful, but it doesn't sound necessarily "low volume" at reference level, at least not to any extreme, when considering basics like dialogue delivery and musical engagement. But bass remains lacking; an explosion in chapter seven, followed by several choppers launching missiles, struggles to find the real feel for the depth and destruction that should accompany the scene. While surrounds pick up falling debris and other chaotic details, there's just not much of a feel for subwoofer heft. Additional action scenes fight through the same sort of underwhelming posture, enjoying some surround integration but nowhere near enough bass. Music is at least capably well defined, presenting with positive front-side width and smart surround integration. Light ambient effects appear as needed to fill space and define a scene. Dialogue poses no problems for clarity, position, or prioritization.
