　　1817年，法国大作家司汤达来到意大利，在佛罗伦萨终日沉醉于文艺复兴时期的大师杰作。一天，他到圣十字教堂参观米开朗基罗、伽利略和马基雅维利的陵墓，刚走出教堂大门，突然感到头脑纷乱，心脏剧烈颤动，每走一步都像要摔倒。医生诊断这是由于频繁欣赏艺术珍品使心理过于激动所至，这种因强烈的美感而引发的罕见病症从此被称为“司汤达综合症”。

　　直到今天，佛罗伦萨的医生仍会不时碰到“司汤达综合症”患者，病情严重的甚至要住几天医院。他们多半是狂爱艺术且极具鉴赏力的游客，野心勃勃，要在几天之内扫遍这座文艺复兴中心城市的艺术宝藏，结果却在接踵而来的视觉冲击中不堪重负。但意大利人对“司汤达综合症”有百分之百的免疫力，对他们来说，文艺复兴的辉煌，像空气一样无所不在，从幼年到迟暮，他们的生活里一直流动着达芬奇、米开朗基罗、拉斐尔那个天才时代的气息.

　　电影中的女警官，和当年的司汤达一样，被乌菲齐美术馆美不胜收的藏品折磨得当场昏倒。佛罗伦萨警校肯定不设心理测试这一关，否则她无法毕业。而歹徒又怎么知道她有这个毛病？大概是阿金托透露给他的……

　　When beautiful police detective Anna Manni follows the bloody trail of a sophisticated serial murderer/rapist through the streets of Italy, the young woman falls victim to the bizarre "Stendhal Syndrome" - a hallucinatory phenomenon which causes her to lose her mind and memory in the presence of powerful works of art. The Stendhal Syndrome Blu-ray, Video Quality

Presented in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1, encoded with MPEG-4 AVC and granted a 1080p transfer, Dario Argento's The Stendhal Syndrome arrives on Blu-ray courtesy of Blue Underground.

The release is sourced from a new 2K remaster of the film that was prepared exclusively for this release. It is quite wonderful and I also prefer the new 1.85:1 framing that was chosen for this presentation of the film. (The old release had the film framed in 1.66:1). In terms of delineation and depth the improvements are quite dramatic. The harness and black crush from the previous master are replaced with a proper organic appearance that reintroduced entire ranged of nuances, so a lot of the darker footage actually boasts much better clarity. The proper grain exposure also ensures proper fluidity, and on a big screen the difference in quality becomes significant. The elimination of the surface harshness and exaggerated crushed blacks from the old master also has a positive effect on the film's color scheme -- the primaries are more natural and there are expanded ranges of nuances. Image stability is excellent. There are no damage marks, cuts, stains, or other age-related imperfections. (Note: This is a Region-Free Blu-ray release. Therefore, you will be able to play it on your player regardless of your geographical location).

The Stendhal Syndrome Blu-ray, Audio Quality

There are six standard audio tracks on this Blu-ray release: English: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 (48kHz, 24-bit), English: Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 (48kHz, 16-bit), Italian: DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1, Italian: Dolby Digital 5.1 EX, Italian: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. Optional English, English SDH, French, and Spanish subtitles are provided for the main feature.

I am aware that there have been some concerns pertaining to the mixing of the English track. I viewed the entire film with the English DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0 track and did not detect any transfer errors to report in our review.

The dialog is clean and easy to follow. However, there is unevenness that from time to time affects the exchanges between the different characters. But, some overdubbing was clearly done and I am quite confident this is how the dynamic levels were managed. The music easily breathes throughout the entire film and there are no balance issues.
