22 Jump Street's 2160p/HDR UHD presentation impresses in all areas of concern. As with the first film, white balance is one of the first major points of obvious improvement over the Blu-ray. Look at the white board behind the professor at the 1:45 mark, a scene pretty much right out of the gate. On the UHD, the board is crisp, pure, bright, lifelike: a beautiful, precise tone. On the Blu-ray, it looks dreary and depressed: creamy and in no way brilliant. It's a radical transformation in this particular instance and one that carries throughout, rendering white shirts and other accents significantly more realistic. HDR aids in making the whole spectrum appear more balanced and intense. Primaries pop off the screen with extreme depth and intensity alike. Colors are brilliant throughout, whether under bright sunny skies, under interior lighting, through warmer light locations, or in low light. The entire movie is made to appear more crisp and tonally efficient. There's more of a sheen in place here; it's slick and smooth but in no way gaudy.

Nevertheless, and unlike the first film's UHD, there's a fair bit of added textural crispness and clarity to be found here. Certainly the degree of improvement is not so radical as to see it stand amongst the very best the format has to offer, but fans will be well pleased to find sharper environmental elements, more lifelike facial details, and superior clothing clarity. Faces and hair are the most obvious beneficiaries in close-up; pores and other skin textures enjoy an obvious boost to intimacy while hairs are sharper and more individualized. Sony's UHD takes a very good Blu-ray image and brings the best out of it with this 4K transfer. Add that noise is managed extremely well and that there are no intrusive source or encode anomalies of note and 22 Jump Street makes for a fine UHD top to bottom, start to finish.

8 ^' U0 p1 ~& k, _% v0 @  T22 Jump Street's Dolby Atmos soundtrack follows in its predecessor's footsteps, delivering a very roomy, robust, and refined audio presentation. The Atmos track brings with it an obvious feel for spacial expansion, unsurprisingly, mostly along the typical plane where the added back channels output much of the new content. Music, environmental supports, and action take full advantage of the surround back channels -- and, of course, all of the other ones -- to create a tighter, more fluid, more fruitful listening experience. The sense of envelopment does not carry to the top end, at least not routinely or discretely. The overheads compliment rather than carry the material, and while the track does not see a steady stream of overwhelming overhead content, the extra support at least means the listener feels more drawn into the experience. And what a fun experience it is. With plenty of swooping sounds, tight discrete effects, and total stage saturation and mayhem, not to mention a well balanced low end support, the track does well by the movie's various sound needs. It's not so dominant as to move into reference territory, but it improves upon the Blu-ray track and offers everything in good, engaging, immersive balance, including front-center and well prioritized dialogue.
