Puss in Boots: The Last Wish Blu-ray, Video Quality   


The 1080p picture quality is sumptuous. The art style is elegantly captured, and its precision elements are beautifully rendered. Even if the film lacks the cutting-edge photorealism of most of today's digital animations -- again that is by design -- the Blu-ray brings out the finest textures, with plenty of clarity, that the source has to offer. The level of complexity allows viewers to explore the animation with precision. Environments, character models, and props and clothes are meticulously revealed; the 1080p resolution is plenty to satisfy the film's demands. Colors are rich and bold as well, capturing the vibrant fur colors, various examples of magical intensity, natural greens, earthy tones, and all variety of additional tones with a level of precision through the entire range that reveals that even under the SDR parameters color excellence can be achieved practically to its fullest. The image shows no source issues or encode problems, either. This is a classy, visually resplendent presentation from Universal.

1 L  V# w* ?. V' lPuss in Boots: The Last Wish arrives on Blu-ray with a vigorous and very enjoyable Dolby Atmos soundtrack. The presentation is full and lively. It's active through every available channel, including the top speakers, which are admittedly used more in support rather than with discreteness. Still, the sense of envelopment and precision is very enjoyable throughout the film, obvious, of course, mostly in action scenes where the track does well to draw the listener into the scenes with precision placement and authority. Bass is never shy about belting out prominent low-end content. It's nicely balanced, offering depth without failing to offer detail to match. Musical clarity is excellent, as is its spacing and surround engagement. The track further folds in plenty of richly defined atmospheric effects for proper immersion into the quieter scenes and locales, which help create the sense of a fully defined and detailed world from the film's first moments to its final shots. Dialogue is clear and center positioned for the duration. It is well prioritized even in pitch action.
