原创到改编

V0 \" Y0 E7 w8 Z7 g 早在1988年，艾伦·帕克就准备着手执导一部改编自雨果小说《悲惨世界》的音乐剧了。那个时候，在帕克的幻想中，这是一部原创的音乐剧。可是他随后就离开了剧组，而影片的导演也在1991年被更换成了布鲁斯·贝尔斯福德。1992年，影片的制片人卡梅隆·麦金托什宣布，TriStar电影公司将制作这部电影。但是随后，这部电影却被踢到了垃圾箱中，深陷在前期准备阶段无法脱身。时间转眼到了2005年，麦金托什确认，歌舞片版的《悲惨世界》将从享受盛誉的音乐剧改编而来，而不再是一部原创的歌舞片。麦金托什表示说："在经过了这么多年的努力和奋斗之后，我希望能找到一个愿意使用原版主创人员，包括我自己在内来到剧组工作的导演。"& [. 这个导演在6年之后，自己送上了门来，这个在2011年联系上麦金托什的导演叫做汤姆·霍伯。对于自己能执导这出大戏，霍伯非常激动，因为在他看来，《悲惨世界音乐剧》是一个了不起的作品。他说："我觉得自己走到了一个顶端，这个顶端是具有里程碑式意义的。因为在我的心里，《悲惨世界》的音乐剧是一部无与伦比的作品。里面的音乐、里面的歌词都是绝妙的。而且，雨果的原著也是这个世界上最宝贵的文化财富之一。能来到这个剧组，和那些历史上赫赫有名的名字在一起工作，绝对是一件了不起的事情。"

G$ L* C+ U* p B6 M 改编音乐剧其实并不算太难，因为原版的音乐剧就是一部有情节、有故事主线的作品。霍伯和他的编剧所需要做的，就是为这些音乐找到合适的舞台、背景和演员。在影片的拍摄地上，霍伯决定要把剧组带到法国摄制。于是整个剧组便来到了法国，而因为演员档期的问题，一些镜头在英国和美国拍摄。而且，按照麦金托什的要求，那些音乐剧的主创人员也来到了剧组工作，尤其是原版音乐剧的作曲克劳德-米歇尔·勋伯格和作词人阿兰·布比尔都来到了剧组工作。勋伯格除了按照原版的曲调为影片重新编写了音乐之外，还和布比尔一起为影片写了一首新歌。这首新歌叫做《突然》（Suddenly）麦金托什说："这首新歌解释了冉·阿让为什么要把珂赛特从小酒馆里带出来并且要一直照顾她。这是这部电影里唯一的一首新歌，也是这部电影最令人激动的一个部分。"3 O. h% x F4 n9 z- p% h& M2 |+ L

在以往的歌舞电影中，歌舞片段的拍摄是分两个部分来做的。声音的部分，是在录音棚里完成的，做好各种乐器和编曲的合成之后，输出成音轨，作为声音素材；而表演的部分是在片场完成的，演员听着自己唱歌的那些素材，做表演。演唱的环节，就变成了对口型的假唱。虽然在演唱会中，假唱令人作呕。但是在电影这个行当里，在歌舞片中，所有的电影都是这么拍摄的，可以说没有例外。但是在这部电影中，汤姆·霍伯却做了一件惊人的创举，他在片场同期录音，录制的是演员在片场的歌声，然后在后期制作中再为这些单独的演唱片段加入伴奏。伴奏也不简单，是一整个叫管弦乐团的合奏。汤姆·霍伯的具体操作方法是这样的。他让每个演员都带上无线的耳机，在远离拍摄现场的地方准备了一架钢琴，让演员在拍摄的时候，听着钢琴的伴奏演唱片中的歌曲。钢琴的作用是让演员找准自己的音调，以免跑调。这样，他在现场同期录制的就是一些独立的，几乎没有任何杂音的唱段。然后，这些唱段被独立地拿出来进行后期制作。在后期制作中，勋伯格根据这些唱段，和演员个人的节奏与音调重新编排所有歌曲的演奏，在录音棚里，以演唱为蓝本，为这些"清唱"配乐。合成之后，就成了影片中的那些载歌载舞还有音乐的片段。使用这样的方式拍摄一整部电影，这在电影史上还是第一次。
- p( M: r9 S7 m8 U" N7 j) N 选择这样的制作流程，霍伯有自己的想法，他说："因为我希望这是一部能有着和音乐剧相同水准的影片，而且也希望它有音乐剧的质感，所以我们就选择了同期录音来拍摄，在后期制作中在加上音乐。这样做，可以更为准确地扑捉到演员在演唱的时候的表情和眼神。要知道，演唱和对口型的时候，人们的表情包括眼神和脖子上的青筋都是不一样的。在这部电影中，我们有很多特写镜头，这样才能表现出这这独特的质感。"这种拍摄方法给了演员更大的表现空间，因为现场只有一架起辅助作用的钢琴，而且霍伯没有预先给演员设计任何演唱上的限制，所有的节奏、轻重、情感的表达都是演员自己准备并且在现场即兴发挥的，而钢琴则是根据演员的表现来调整自己的节奏，这就使得演员在影片中的演唱更为自然和纯真。霍伯说："这样的拍摄的确使得影片的感觉一新，我想这才是真正的歌舞片所应该拥有的质感和模样。"
