) o9 ~: }" n6 Q* ]; g5 }As was the case with Men in Black, Sony has delivered another A-list UHD presentation with Men in Black II. The image is a looker to be sure. The movie was shot on film and this UHD retains a very even, pleasing, and accentuating grain structure that gives the image a beautiful filmic appearance. Details are tight and precise with no room for complaint beyond a few expectedly softer digital VFX shots. Skin tones have incredible depth and nuance on offer. Clothes are precise and beyond sharp, offering a tangible, tactile appearance to everything from generic street clothes to the MiB issue suits. Environments are crisp and complex, and the transfer picks up every crease and line and seemingly inconsequential texture, from raw urban areas to slick MiB interiors, with resplendent command of the image. The HDR-enhanced color palette brings a new level of natural vibrancy to the image. There's no betraying the movie's core look, and there's no denying the increase in vitality, saturation, and punch. Colors dazzle with remarkably accurate and intricately nuanced precision. Black levels are a bit more stable here compared to the last film's transfer, and another highlight remains the crisp white shirts under the black suits and behind the black neckties. Skin tones appear accurate to the actors' complexions. Source or encode flaws are essentially nonexistent. It's hard to image UHD doing much better by this, or any, movie.

MIIB's Dolby Atmos soundtrack is the perfect compliment to the 4K/HDR visuals. It's everything one would imagine, and not dissimilar from the Atmos track found on the MIB UHD. It's big, aggressive, precise. Music never struggles to punch into overdrive but maintain clarity as it extends far and wide around the stage, leaving no area left anything but completely inundated with balanced, clear notes and perfectly refined bass. Likewise, action scenes are completely encompassing of the stage and squeeze out every sound detail the design team included. There's plenty of weight to heavy effects, lots of room for large-scale action, and no shortage of tangible overhead and complimentary surround components to drive the most intense action. Environmental ambience is perfectly implemented as well, encircling the listener (including some wonderful overhead reverberation as voices filter via speakers through MiB headquarters) and drawing the audience into all of the film's environments. Dialogue is, of course, clear and detailed.
