　　本片是西部片的经典之作，结构完整，最后一场交换人质的枪战场面拍得逼真刺激，人物刻画上粗中有细，对人际关系有细腻的描写，主题曲也是犹为感人。1967年推出续集《龙马精神》（El Dorado，又译《龙虎盟》），剧情：科尔作为一个枪手被牧场主贾森派去埃尔多拉多赶走麦克唐纳一家，他在执行任务时及时放弃了这个念头，而且还帮助警长把第二个枪手除掉，自己也在那里定居下来。1976年的《血溅十三号警署》（Assault on Precinct 13）是翻拍，但把场景搬到了洛杉矶的警察局。
