　　独眼男孩久保（阿特·帕金森 Art Parkinson 配音）和身体孱弱的母亲过着相依为命的日子。白天，久保靠着给村民们讲述怪力乱神的精彩故事赚钱，天一黑，他就必须回到家中照顾母亲。一天，久保回家晚了，曾经夺走了久保一只眼睛的邪恶姐妹（鲁妮·玛拉 Rooney Mara 配音）来到久保家，企图夺走他的另一只眼睛。在混战中，久保的母亲死去了，死里逃生的久保被迫离开村庄，在外流亡。

　　久保得知父亲去世之前留下了一副能够保护久保不受到邪恶姐妹和其父亲月神（拉尔夫·费因斯 Ralph Fiennes 配音）侵害的盔甲，于是决定启程寻找它。路上久保偶遇了失忆巫师甲壳虫（马修·麦康纳 Matthew McConaughey 配音），甲壳虫也加入了久保的队伍中。
